Souper Bowl of Caring
The youth encourage all members to attend worship on Super Bowl Sunday and participate in the fight to end hunger. Bring an item for the local Food Pantry--any kind of food item and/or something for a baby or a toiletry item (i.e., packages of toilet paper, soaps, wash rags, shower gels, razors, shaving creams, etc.) or bring a dollar or two to drop into the soup pot. All proceeds will be given to the local Food Pantry.

Small Groups
The 5 Love Languages
A new small group will be starting up in September. It will meet on Thursday evenings, 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the church. The first date is set for Thursday, September 22. Cindy Heiden and Pastor Barb will be leading this small group.
The book chosen is The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman, anthropologist and marriage counselor for over three decades. The primary emphasis of the book is for husbands and wives to understand how they communicate love as individuals, and how they receive love as individuals. Once that is understood they learn to communicate their love in more obvious and understandable ways; however, the book can be very helpful with understanding how to communicate with children and with friends.
There will be a sign-up sheet in the sanctuary, or you may call the church office. Please carefully and prayerfully consider this opportunity to read a common book together, to discuss it, and to learn. Another benefit is to get to know some other folks even better.
The Jesus I Never Knew
A new small group will be starting up, this one in September as well. This group will meet Friday mornings at the church at 9:30 a.m.
The book, The Jesus I Never Knew, by Philip Yancy looks at the life of Jesus from birth through death and resurrection, and beyond. There are three parts to the book: 1) Who He (Jesus) Was, 2) Why He Came, and 3) What He Left Behind. Yancy is quoted, “The Jesus I got to know in writing this book is very different from the Jesus I learned about in Sunday school. In some ways he is more comforting; in some ways more terrifying.”
Come and discuss what Yancy writes about Jesus, what you’ve always, or have come, to believe about Jesus, and we all might end up seeing and knowing Jesus differently. The study will begin on Friday, September 23, at 9:30 a.m. There is a sign-up sheet in the sanctuary, or you may call the church to sign-up. Pastor Barb will be leading this group.
