Watertown Moravian Church
From the Pastor
How often do you ask yourself:  Is it worth it?

Living alone I sometimes wonder why I make my bed in the morning.  “No one sees it but me.” I see
it, and it feels good to climb into a “made” bed at night.

There is a house on West Cady Street that has wonderful Christmas decorations that light up …
their backyard!
Is it worth it? Who’s going to see it?  My guess is that the family sees the lit decora-
tions every evening and very much like to see their backyard lit up … even if very few others view it.

Why pray? Is it worth it? Some people might wonder, especially if there doesn’t seem to be answers
to their prayers – at least, not the answers for which they may have been praying.

Why worship?
Is it worth it? This is a very personal question.  Those who worship regularly know it’s
worth it! ‘My week is off to a better start.’ ‘I feel that something is missing if I’m not in worship.’ ‘God
gives me every hour of every day – I can give God one hour of worship a week.’ ‘Sure, I can worship
on my own, but there is an energy when I worship with others, and a connectedness with God, that is
unique and wonderful.’ Why do you worship?  Why don’t you worship?  Each person has to discover
their own “worth” in worship.

Why give?
Is it worth it? Again, this requires a very personal response. Everything we are,
everything we have, comes from God – our Creator. God does not demand that we give.  If we aren’t
committed to God as a disciple, as a follower of Jesus Christ, we can live our entire lives without
giving much or anything to God through Christ’s church.

Our giving is a litmus test of our commitment to God, as is our worship attendance. What tangible
evidence of our commitment to be Christ’s disciples is there if it isn’t worship participation and giving
to the work of Christ through the Church of which Jesus is Head?

As 2012 unfolds ask yourself,
is worship worth it? And then answer the question for yourself.  Then
ask,
Is giving my offering, my tithe, worth it?  And then answer that question for yourself.

I, personally, would like to see every single member say:
Yes, it’s worth it. Both worship
attendance and giving will go up.  But more importantly, your relationship with your Lord and God will
grow, as you grow in your faith.

I’ll see you Sunday mornings!
